Located in the SM2 area, this large-scale residential extension and full renovation project reimagines a classic English home for modern family living. The homeowner’s vision was clear — to preserve the house’s traditional character while infusing it with comfort, light, and contemporary sophistication.
The works encompass both interior and exterior transformations, including structural extensions, complete system upgrades, a full interior redesign, and a reimagined garden landscape. Together, these elements bring to life the client’s ideal home — one that harmoniously blends heritage charm with modern functionality.
Construction Highlights
1. Spacious Extension & Interior Redesign
The property is being extended 6 metres to the rear, opening the living and dining areas into an expansive 6m × 4m open-plan space that flows naturally toward the garden. This new layout fulfils the client’s desire for a bright, airy, and connected family environment.
The kitchen will be transformed into an open-plan hub, seamlessly linking the dining area and outdoor garden — perfect for family gatherings and everyday living. Upstairs, bedrooms are being reconfigured and additional bathrooms added to improve comfort, natural light, and convenience, echoing the client’s belief in “the warmth and ritual of home life.”
Smart spatial planning also maximizes existing areas: the utility room behind the kitchen will be redesigned to include a new shower room, while the side door will be enclosed for better spatial flow. Under-stair space will be custom-built into a bespoke storage or study area. Upgraded boiler systems, lighting, and finishes complete the transformation — all guided by the principle of “reviving the old home with new life.”
2. Heritage-Inspired Restoration
At the front entrance, the home’s original green door with its brass knocker, decorative keyhole plate, and arched frame has been carefully preserved. The frosted ripple glass panels continue to filter soft daylight, maintaining the home’s period elegance.
Inside, the compact cloakroom — once featuring vintage copper pipes and tactile switches — will be refreshed with modern tiling and contemporary fittings, balancing nostalgia with refinement.
The outdated steel-framed single-glazed windows will be replaced with UPVC double-glazed units, dramatically improving energy efficiency and insulation.
In the living room, the original herringbone timber flooring, along with green and red carpet details and the traditional fireplace, will be lovingly restored. These touches preserve the authentic British heritage ambiance that gives the home its distinctive charm.
3. Expansive Garden Design
The property’s deeply landscaped garden, once tended by an avid gardener, features mature greenery and even a stately Christmas tree. The new homeowner hopes to retain this lush, layered character, turning the outdoor space into a private retreat for relaxation and entertaining.
